The Bowie City Activist

Covering developments and advocating accountability in Bowie City Government since 2004

This Logue/Robinson handbill circulated in the City during the 1980s.

Fred Robinson picked the wrong target in the C&C Dance Company to defend his failed land covenants in the Melford lawsuit. The waste of city tax dollars, at last count over $72,000, showed all of Bowie what I learned many years ago about Fred Robinson as a public official. Not smart enough to know the difference between an owner occupied home and a rental property by sending code enforcement into my home against my protests, Robinson showed all of Bowie that he was also not smart enough to know Bowie taxpayers do not pay taxes to put a dance company that half the town's children have attended at one time or another out of business.

Not even Blade News cronies John Rouse and Gerard Devlin could help Fred Robinson with his third failed county council bid in 2006. With thousands of visitors to the Bowie City Activist website, we kept the C&C Dance defense alive for over 3 years, and endorsed political newcomer Ingrid Turner as the backlash of voters would not promote the incompetent Bowie mayor to County Council.

One local website can make a difference! It is appropriate The Bowie City Activist announces the demise of Fred Robinson's political career in Bowie.

In the 1980s handbill above, we finally learned who was Tweedledee and who was Tweedledum.

Greetings Friends! Welcome to the Bowie City Activist website at www.bowiewatch.org!

I created the Bowie City Activist website as a result of Bowie's Mayor G. Frederick Robinson's assault on the C&C Dance Company that he targeted in the City of Bowie Vs. St. John's Properties. Mayor Fred Robinson, along with City Councilmen Dennis Brady and Jack Jenkins, picked the wrong target for their failed Maryland Science and Technology covenants. These three stooges could have picked the carpet cleaning business or the vending business located at Melford to test their failed covenants, but instead they targeted The C&C Dance Company.

Elsewhere on this website (please navigate in the dropdown box), you will find that the C&C Dance Company actually is a permitted use under the current land covenants complying with the educational institution clause, the recreational use clause, and possibly the religious use clause (some people consider dance education to be a form of religious expression. For example, St. Matthews Church has a dance ministry).

The assault on the rights of the C&C Dance Company was a typical Fred Robinson screw-up. Fred Robinson paid the price for the stupidity when two political newcomers, Darrell Carrington and Ingrid Turner - both with no prior political experience whatsoever split the anti-Robinson vote between themselves - and Ingrid Turner still won the County Council election in 2006!

Mayor G. Frederick Robinson will forever be known as the Bowie Mayor who spent over $72,000 attacking a reputable dance company that half the town's children have attended at one time or another.

BOWIE BRIEFS

LYLES FILES

District 4 City Councilman Michael Lyles has filed his candidacy for Mayor of Bowie in the upcoming 2007 city election. Mr. Lyles has made city history by becoming the first African-American to run for Mayor of Bowie.

Already the "Old Boys Network" here in Bowie is at work attempting to discredit Mr. Lyles' candidacy. Mayor Gee Fred Flintstone crony John Rouse (the louse), wrote this regarding Mr. Lyles in his March 15, 2007 Blade News Commentary: "Lyles appears to relish his role as an advocate for development...."

On what basis does Rouse make such a statement?

Wasn't it his boy Gee Fred Flintstone who, according to District 23 Slate Treasurer Valerie Bennett, stated that Mayor Robinson was the only member of the 23rd District slate who took developer money from Developer Gary Rappaport in last years elections? Wasn't it Gee Fred Flintstone who stated during the County Council Candidate Forum that he did not represent developers' interests? Yet, he took almost $4,000 in developer's money???

The Old Boy's Network here in Bowie (Robinson, Brady, Jenkins, Rouse, Devlin & certain members of the Greater Bowie Chamber of Commerce - all of whom are caucaision males) was dealt an embarrassing blow with Ingrid Turner's remarkable uphill election. Look for them to go all out during the 2007 city election with some very baseless claims to keep any challengers from breaking up the local political monopoly that the Old Boys Network would keep in tact.

Ingrid Turner's election foiled a succession scheme that would have made Councilman Dennis Brady (boring - yawn!) the Mayor of Bowie and given him the advantage of incumbency in the 2007 city Mayoral election. Thankfully, that did not happpen.

"ROUSE THE LOUSE" ETHICS COMMENTARY

Oh Joy!

I see that pompous &$$, John Rouse, and the other Robinson crony, Gerard Devlin, are giving lectures on ethics in this past week's Bowie Pravda (otherwise known as the Blade News).

Let's see - wasn't it Judge Devlin who accepted a payment from District 2 candidate James Golato's campaign during the city election of 2005? I don't know if that is indicative of Judge Devlin's modis of operandi - accepting payments from people given he is a Judge and is suppose to be impartial - but given his position as a columnist at the Blade News, the payment certainly smacked with the perception of influence peddling.

When the payment was caught by the Bowie City Activist at www.bowiewatch.org, Golato told us "that doesn't look good". We were then told it was a donation to the DAV. Well, if that were true, then why wasn't the Golato campaign payment record made payable to the DAV instead of Devlin? Why did Devlin touch the money?

Then, there is "Rouse the louse": Let's see, I could probably write a book on his journalistic ethics lapses, but suffice it to say he couldn't see the conflict of interest with the Blade News exchanging free movie reviews written by Jenkins for Council treasurer Connie Jenkins in exchange for Blade News political endorsements.

John, in case you haven't gone completely brain dead on us, that is called "Cronyism". It is the appearance of a conflict of interest. As I have said many times, Jenkins opponent Diane Polangin's only fault in life during the 2005 city election was that she didn't have a spouse writing articles for the Blade News free of charge.

In Rouse's Commentary, he makes an issue of Councilman Todd Turner's employment with Prince Georges County. Where was Rouse's concern about County employment when Mayor Gee Fred Flintstone drew a paycheck from Prince Georges County?

Folks, what we have here is a little click of people that have gained control of Bowie city government and one of our local media outlets (which receives lots of advertising revenue from Bowie City Government). They have been in monopoly control for MANY years.

The Robinson/Brady/Jenkins/Devlin/Devaney/Rouse crowd do NOTHING for Bowie that I can see other than serve and perpetuate themselves! Oh, and by the way, they ALL are WHITE males.

Benjamin Woolery, a Robinson appointee head of the Ethics Commission (another white male), is a well known Robinson supporter. His role in the 2002 city election (before Devlin changed the city charter to alter the election cycle because Robinson was receiving too much competition) in support of Mayor Gee Fred Flintstone (D) against Paul Ellington (R) is well known to Bowie political insiders.

Well Golly Gee Fred, I wonder if RACE is the difference when Rouse/Devlin talk about ethics - ignore their own white ethical lapses but then jump all over Todd Turner? Or, perhaps it is partisan politics? Or, perhaps a combination of both?

Councilman Todd Turner has done NOTHING WRONG. He was elected by his constituents with full knowledge and full disclosure of his day job with the County government. The ethics issue is a Robinson smoke screen to obfuscate the fact that Robinson wants Turner off the City Council - I guess to pick up another council vote in the Melford mess - a mess which Robinson himself created in the first place.

Having "Rouse the louse" talk about ethics is like having banned baseball player Pete Rose ("I did not bet on baseball" liar) lecture to us about the evils of gambling.

Capital Gazette Newspapers, PLEASE get us a NEW EDITOR down at the Blade News! We are ready for a newspaper similar to the Annapolis Evening Capital.

A Phillip Merrill "Rouse the louse" is not!
