The Bowie City Activist

Covering developments and advocating accountability in Bowie City Government since 2004

Lyles3.jpg

The Bowie City Activist website proudly endorses Councilman D. Michael Lyles for Mayor of Bowie.

Michael Lyles is an articulate, intelligent, energetic and accomplished candidate for Mayor of Bowie. He is a visionary and a man of action. Mike Lyles will fight for Bowie - he will fight to make the city a magnet for business; fight to bring better paying jobs; fight to expand Bowie partnerships with county, state and federal governments; and fight to keep taxes low and services high!

In March, 2004, the City of Bowie held a special election to fill the vacant District 4 seat. As a funny aside, there were some people in Bowie that thought the special District 4 election in spring 2004 was our regularly scheduled general election unaware of the scheme to alter our election cycles after the 2002 city election so Robinson's incumbency would be extended and he would not have to face Bowie voters for 3 1/2 years.

Michael Lyles was elected from a crowded field in the 2004 District 4 special election. To this day, I cannot explain why, but something deep inside told me that it was very necessary that I be in attendence at Mike Lyles' swearing in ceremony in 2004. Although I was once a fixture at Bowie City Council meetings in the early 1990s, I rarely attend Council meetings anymore opting to watch on TV, but I did attend Michael's swearing in ceremony in person. I met Michael and his lovely wife Deneen for the first time. It was also at that same special 2004 Council meeting that Fred Robinson called me a "knucklehead" to my face dating himself to the 1950s three stooges era (Hey Moe! Hey Larry!).

Michael is a trial attorney for the US Department of Defense. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree from the University of the District of Columbia and a Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) law degree from Catholic University. His community activist efforts include involvement in PTA organizations and Neighborhood Watch committee.

I watch many City Council meetings on TV, and have been observing Michael over the past few years. I can tell you that he has an excellent gift of cutting to the core of a matter meaning he gets to root causes of problems/issues quickly. One of the things that I know frustrates Michael on the Council is a lack of action. Michael is just the opposite - Michael is a "doer". Mike Lyles is a man of action. Some people talk, other people like Mike Lyles are "doers".

Michael recently took time out of his busy campaign to meet with me at Starbucks. In talking with Mike, it was obvious to me that Mike has the best interests of Bowie at heart.

You can learn more about Mike Lyle's campaign at www.votelyles.com.

I would be proud to have Mike Lyles as my Mayor, and I hope all of Bowie will agree with me. It is way past time for change in Bowie. We are blessed to have Michael in Bowie who is risking his secure Council seat to challenge incumbent Mayor Robinson.

I highly recommend and endorse D. Michael Lyles for Mayor of Bowie!

Richard A. Dahms

Greetings Friends!

Welcome to The Bowie City Activist website at www.bowiewatch.org.

This is Bowie's grass roots effort to change Bowie for the better, advocate accountability in Bowie City Government, and fight political corruption and the "Old Boys Network" that keeps some of the most unaccomplished people in power of city government. This website has been visited by 5,000 internet visitors since inception.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

The city's political landscape is now set, and this stage of the "Battle of the Bowie Mayors" is now complete.

On September 13, 2007, I filed for Mayor of Bowie. I issued a press release which can be found on the August 25/September 10, 2007 webpage of the Bowie City Activist. My participation in the 2007 city election and the filing for Mayor accomplished the following:

• Dedicated the 2007 Bowie City Election to the late Bill Aleshire, the peoples' Councilman censured by Fred Robinson for exercising his first ammendment freedom of speech rights.

•Raised some issues that might not have been raised in the Mayoral race. Issues include taking care of our senior citizens with city property tax relief; city annexation that is not development related - Bowie State University and Nash Woods preservation; continued advocacy for The C & C Dance Company at Melford; litter; and English as the official city language as a straw for the immigration issue at the state level.

•Raised three questions for voter referendum: 1) bond debt financing for construction of a new city hall; 2) A term limit proposal for City Council; and 3) City Manager/City Council vs. Mayoral form of City government. The unelected City Manager speaking for the incumbent Council refused to bring any of these three simple questions to the citizens of Bowie who pay the bills.

•Leveled the playing field for the Mayoral race by keeping "Rouse the louse" in check for a month so that he would not actively campaign for incumbent Fred Robinson as we saw him do during the District 4 Democratic Primary election in 2006.

•Provided a voice for Independents and Others disenfranchised by the City's political process in the closed 2007 Mayoral race with 2 Council incumbents.

•Raised the need with the City for the availability of Provisional ballots for use in the 2007 city election so there would be no repeat of city voters being turned away from voting like what happened in District 2 during the 2005 city election.

•Kicked down the "Old Boys Network" local political chicanery trick that provides incumbent Fred Robinson with the extra advantage of free publicity in the Bowie Blade News the week before the city election with the Mayor's State of the City address at the Greater Bowie Chamber of Commerce.

•Got "back on the horse" so to speak following the well publicized September 22, 2006 incident in retaliation of my support of Councilwoman Ingrid Turner. Some of the best activists are detained and arrested by police.

•Flexed my city political activist muscle so to speak, and gave new ideas to other candidates for use in 2007 city election.

•Waived to some of my friends and neighbors in the Kenilworth Community, and received excellent street reaction from motorists when I walked down Kenhill Drive with a borrowed "Fred Robinson for Mayor" sign (posted illegally) in one hand, and a bag of garbage in the other hand. Passing motorists honked and gave thumbs up to acknowledge the "Robinson garbage" message.

•Created new political capital for my future use.

• Participated in the Long Ridge Caucus, and confronted Fred Robinson.

•And best of all, I gave that pompous ass John Rouse "the louse" a huge "middle finger" so to speak. Perhaps I am the only citizen in Bowie that is not intimidated by Rouse and have the guts to stand up to the arrogant newspaper editor. "Rouse the louse" likes people who suck up to him which is why he has always endorsed brown nose Jack Jenkins, besides the fact that his wife Connie Jenkins wrote a column for the Blade News for many years. You should see how the cowardly Rouse runs at the sight of me when we run into each other at Safeway.

I realize I said that I was here for my hometown for those who just couldn't stomach 2 more years of Gee Fred Flintstone, but did not know the intelligent, articulate and accomplished Michael Lyles. However, during the month that I have had the opportunity to be a 2007 mayoral candidate, a "conflict of interest" has arisen.

As stated to my e-mail distribution, my time to have been elected Mayor of Bowie was in 2005, but for the collusion between the City of Bowie, the Blade News and Greater Bowie Chamber of Commerce. Therefore, I have withdrawn from the 2007 Mayoral election. Best wishes to all candidates - except Mayor Gee Fred Flintstone and the hapless Dennis Brady, of course. We hope these two are thrown out of office!

THE ROBINSON LIES HAVE ARRIVED!

In 1998, Fred Robinson outright lied to Bowie by telling voters he was against The Bowie Town Center Mall and implied to voters that he would/could stop the controversial mall. Today, Fred Robinson lists the Bowie Town Center as one of his accomplishments while in office. I have been waiting to see what lies and distortions Fred Robinson would tell in this 2007 city election.

It arrived as junk mail in my mail box this week. I almost tossed it out not noticing it was a political mailer.
Bowie's biggest and most proficient compulsive LIAR, Mayor G. Fred Flintstone, has done it again - surprise, surprise!!

"Who is fighting for the Bowie Health Center?" reads the red Gee Fred Flintstone sealed advertisement. Open the seal, and your read Gee Fred's scare tactic advertisement containing only half truths and utter non-sense. As an aside, the Bowie Health Center is not an issue the City of Bowie has any control over other than lobbying. Whether Fred Flintstone is elected or not won't make any difference with the on-going financial issues involving Dimensions Health Care. Fred Flintstone knows it, and he also knows many people of Bowie DON'T know this.

Writes Robinson: "Now the Health Center is in deep financial trouble. It has just a few days of cash on hand. It could close on short notice" Now understand, intellectual Bowie will not buy this Robinson garbage, but many will. The worst case scenario is Bowie Heath Center gets embroiled in a Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. In Chapter 11, there is financial relief and the Bowie Health center would continue to operate much like most major US airlines operated in Chapter 11 following 9/11. Again, Robinson probably knows this, but he can't get elected on TRUTH, so he relies on lies and distortions to play on peoples' emotions.

By the way, if you received the piece of Robinson garbage in the mail this past week, take a good look at the picture of Gee Fred. He doesn't look healthy himself and is probably a good candidate for the Bowie Health Center himself sometime in the future. Really, take a look at the picture!

Then the piece of Robinson garbage states: "When the County walked away, Mayor Robinson continued to push for a solution" - A BIG FAT ROBINSON LIE! The truth is the County did not walk away. People like Camille Exxum and our own Ingrid Turner had the backbone to not just fork over taxpayer money without any accountability (which is Robinson's position). The County did not walk away. Instead, our County Council required "hooks" on the taxpayer money which required interim financial forecast reporting. It was Ingrid Turner who was pushing for taxpayers and a solution - not Robinson.

Forward looking financial forecasts from public entities is something Robinson doesn't do for the City of Bowie because he hides tax increases until after City elections.

More Robinson distortion: "And mayor Robinson's opponent, D. Michael Lyles? He was a no-show in Annapolis". Oh really? Lyles was a "no-show" in Annapolis because there was NOTHING to show up for in Annapolis!

The Outright Robinson Lies continue; "He even criticized Mayor Robinson for standing up for the Bowie Health Center". I watched the City Council meeting in question on TV. Mike Lyles did no such thing!!!

The truth is Lyles criticized Robinson for making a Council policy statement with City Manager Deutsch WITHOUT consulting the rest of the City Council. Councilman Todd Turner made the implicit point of Bill Aleshire who was censured by the City Council. It was the reverse situation from the Aleshire matter. Robinson cites the Bowie Blade News and the Bowie Star, April 19, 2007 to give his distortions some validity, but the CONTEXT of Lyles statements are excluded.

I was wondering what lies and distortions the compulsive liar Robinson would tell in the 2007 city election. It arrived in Bowie homes this week.

OCTOBER 15, 2007 CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS

Below are my comments made at the October 15, 2007 Bowie City Council meeting. I should make note that a Bowie city police officer stood within a few feet away from me as I spoke - symbolic of the police state intimidation Fred Robinson and the unelected head of the city, David Deutsch, have imposed in their corrupt banana republic totalitarian regime.

Here are my comments:

Richard Dahms, 12612 Kavanaugh Lane, Publisher of

www.bowiewatch.org Good government in America

begins with good government in Bowie. There are two ways

to make a better Bowie – one way is with your vote, and I

encourage every registered voter to vote in next month’s

election. In this season as a matter of public record and

public service, I remind the people of Bowie that while

other Maryland cities dealt with issues such as strip

clubs, adult book stores and prostitution, Bowie’s Fred

Robinson and Dennis Brady spent over $72,000 of your

money attacking the C&C Dance company at the non-tech

center. In 2002, both Robinson and Brady voted to alter

our city elections in the most self serving scheme we have

ever seen adding an extra 1 ½ years to their incumbencies

without facing city voters.

The second way to make a better Bowie is through

litigation, and legal threats. There have been two

significant legal threats in the past 20 years that

have made a better Bowie. One is the NAACP legal threat in

2000 that changed our city’s election system from the

fraudulent citywide system that produced Robinson and

Brady to the current district system. The second

significant legal threat was in 1992 while Fred Robinson

sat on the city council when the City ignored and

stonewalled my attempts to gain access to the city’s

financial records under the Maryland Public Information

Act. Four months after my attorneys served notice of the

City’s misconduct and the legal basis for my requests, the

City manager announced his resignation and quickly left

town. A new and better City Manager was hired.

On July 3, 2007, the City of Bowie received a letter

from this citizen invoking Article 34 of the Maryland

State Constitution Declaration of Rights. As a result of

that letter and the legal threat it presents to the City,

together we will make a better Bowie. Thank you.

BOWIE POLITICAL BRIEFS

- Two Large Michael Lyles and Leon Buck signs erected near the intersection of Routes 450 and Route 3 have disappeared. I don't know if this particular spot is on the public right of way. But, this is the identical spot where Fred Robinson signs were erected during last years District 4 County Council Democratic Primary. So, if the City is responsible for taking these signs down, it again does it selectively allowing Fred Robinson to continue to break the law. Here is what At large candidate Leon Buck wrote me:

"Yes sir. It is disturbing that these signs are miraculously disappearing. I don't know what to do about it or how we can remedy the situation".

I have a remedy: how about hiring a new City manager who will faithfully execute his responsibilities equally on all instead of overlooking Fred Robinson's sign law violations. Deutsch has become very arrogant in his selective enforcement of the law, and is why Article 34 of our State Constitution was enacted by the wisdom of our State. I wonder which Council candidates would disagree with the principle of Article 34 - that a long duration in the executive offices of power is dangerous to liberty. I wonder if David Deutsch himself disagrees with this principle in our state Constitution?

- I hear tell that the Greater Bowie Chamber of Commerce Candidate Forum was a real bust! Robinson crony Kelly Pierce was touting the expectation of 500 people to attend in an e-mail I received. However, I am informed that only approximately 120 actually attended.

It is clear that the Greater Bowie Chamber of Commerce (GBCC) continues to operate in an anti-competitive manner to ensure that there is no healthy debate of the issues that are important to all of us in Bowie. They have selected a panel to filter the public's questions, and protect their boy Fred Robinson from any real debate. Since it wasn't a real debate, it probably didn't matter.

- The campaign literature of the waffling and hapless Dennis Brady (yawn!) arrived recently. From his "highlights from his first 13 years" (boy, that statement alone should wake people up), he reminds people of all the Residential and Commercial development that has occurred in Bowie. I kid you not! Just what voters in Bowie want to hear - all the development that Brady seems to take credit for in his campaign literature. He lists as highlights: Collington Station, Devonshire estates, Glen Allen, Jenkins-Heim, Town Center Condominiums, Pin Oak Senior Housing, Saddlebrook and Ternberry.

Boy, Brady needs to analyze his campaign fliers more closely. Does he really want to portray himself associated with all this development that Bowie voters loathe?

Then, somehow, Brady claims credit for protection of Nash Woods. Strange, I thought former County Councilman Doug Peters saved Nash Woods by the zoning swap with Melford. Is Brady endorsing my platform issue of annexing this wooded parcel into the City of Bowie?

Then, Brady has a number of words that have no substance behind them such as, "Work with County to improve educational opportunities throughout Bowie". Nice words for cluttered campaign literature, but no real substance behind it.

Perhaps the most interesting statement in his literature which reflects on how backward Dennis Brady thinks is this statement, "Support City's vision of.....". No Dennis. I realize Dennis thinks he is above the people, but this is how the process normally works - The people elect a Councilman who reflects their views which may or may not be the same as the City's views or vision. The City gets its vision and policy direction from the City Council, and not the other way around, Dennis.

I think this is why Fred Robinson and Dennis Brady have both failed to advance to greater levels of public service like Bowie City Council alumni Audrey Scott, Doug Peters and Leo Green, Sr. Robinson and Brady have the chain of command reporting relationship backwards.

- At Large candidate Leon Buck has a good, informative website. Check it out at www.buckforbowie.com!

- On a hot night in Prince Georges Stadium last summer, I stood in line for a beer behind State Delegate Marvin Holmes. The young man serving the beer "carded" our State Delegate - the irony of which caused me to immediately burst into laughter. I explained to the puzzled young man serving the beer - "This is the guy who passes the State laws which require you to card everyone before serving beer". The good natured Holmes responded to me by saying, "Hey, he's just doing his a job!" I know, but I found the irony funny. The Delegate and I both shared a good laugh.

It's nice to see an elected State official treated the exact same as the smuck standing behind him as I had to pull my driver's license too! I can now personally dispel any rumors to the contrary. Delegate Marvin Holmes is, in fact, old enough to pass laws and represent Bowie on the Maryland State General Assembly.

- I know why Councilman Mike Lyles was a proponent of pay increases for City Council. The answer is on a white hat I received from my late step-father which I wear around town often. The hat reads: Talk is Cheap Until You Hire a Lawyer.

- And speaking of hats, the best Robinson slam was my quote - "As they say in Texas, Robinson is ALL hat and NO cattle!"

- The ambiguous Jim Golato campaign gets even more confusing as you read his conflicting statements and watch his conflicting actions. One blatant ambiguity is pointed out in the updated Diane Polangin endorsement at the bottom of this current webpage of the Bowie City Activist.

Another Golato ambiguity goes like this: Golato is against annexation, the Golato residence sports a Dennis Brady sign (Jim Golato lives with his parents as he is yet to get out on his own at age 49), Dennis Brady's campaign literature boasts all the Commercial and Residential development annexation that has occurred over the last 13 years. If Golato is so against annexation, why is he supporting Dennis Brady? Hasn't Bowie had enough politicians over the years that speak out of both sides of their mouths?

- The At-Large Council race has become "the perfect storm" for the less esteemed editor Rouse "the louse". Study Leon Buck and Geraldine Valentino-Smith backgrounds and you will understand why Rouse the louse down at the Dennis Brady Bowie Pravda Building has painted himself into a corner. He is going to have to justify why he selects one of the two over the other in the At-large race.

Rouse can't justify Brady and Valentino-Smith over Buck based on years of city residency. Years of city residency is NOT a legitimate criteria for judging qualifications for elected office. If it were a legitimate criteria, then for Rouse "the louse" to be consistent Rouse "the louse" would have had to endorse me, Richard Dahms, since my days in the City go back to 1961 - farther than Fred Robinson and Rouse "the louse" himself.

Leon Buck has served on the City's recreation committee. And, as someone pointed out to me, works for the American Red Cross. Former City Councilman Kurt Kroemer, a fan favorite of Rouse the louse (as well as mine) also worked for the American Red Cross.

Rouse the louse's At-Large editorial endorsements should be scrutinized very closely this week. Rouse can't point to Valentino-Smith's law degree as the edge since Mike Lyles has a law degree and that didn't enfluence Rouse's endorsement of Gee fred Flintstone (no surprise).

We know Rouse the louse has to endorse at least one of the two: Leon Buck and/or Valentino-Smith. I'll bet money he avoids explaining his rationale of picking one over the other if he endorses the hapless Dennis Brady.

We expected Rouse "the louse" to endorse his boy Robinson over Michael Lyles. As I always say, the Bowie Blade News is the official publication of Gee Fred Flintstone. But, will Rouse "the louse" totally ignore African American representation of any kind for ANY of the 3 At Large seats? Remember, the Mayor's seat is also an At-Large seat as well.

Isn't the City Council suppose to reflect the demographics of the underlying population? John Rouse and the 'ol Boys network in Bowie is a WHITES ONLY club with no diversity!

The Bowie City Activist website endorses both Leon Buck and Geraldine Valentino-Smith.

We reject former Mayor Gary Allen's argument for keeping Dennis Brady because of his institutional knowledge. That is what City Staff is for.

Oh, and John, a Master's of Science degree in Electrical Engineering is NOT a requirement for the Bowie City Council. Just like a Journalism degree isn't a requirement to be Editor of The Bowie Blade News. :)

CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT ENDORSEMENTS (Added 10/30/07)

DISTRICT 1 - As a matter of ethics disclosure, Jimmy Marcos has employed members of my family at T.J. Elliot's. Oh, and I use to eat a lot of Ledo's Pizzas while attending the University of Maryland in the 1970s. I am aware of criticism of Marcos that he is slow to respond to constituents, and this gives the perception he acts the same in city council. Other criticism is that he is perceived as "a wheeler dealer".

In fairness to Marcos, I'm sure he doesn't need this part time job. It is good that we have a business person on the the City Council. I like the Marcos approach to the City budget and city finances. I don't know Pauletta Handy, or what her positions are other than what I have read in our newspapers. Therefore, no endorsement in District 1.

DISTRICT 2 - Diane Polangin without any second thought or hesitation. Polangin is simply the best! See our expanded endorsement on this webpage, and our interview with her on the September 29 webpage. When Kevin Conroy made the mistake of aligning himself with Fred Robinson and vacating his At Large council seat, he also vacated his 1 term record on the City Council. Therefore, I am judging Kevin Conroy as if he was never on the Council to keep the District 2 race an open race. I read Katie Costello's campaign literature. She makes many good points, but I still have to wonder what or who is behind her candidacy???? Golato is an absolute ZERO, and I am being very kind. Like Robinson, Golato will say anything to get elected. Some of his contradictions are documented on this current webpage. Golato needs to grow-up by getting out on his own at age 49 instead of living with his parents.

DISTRICT 3 - The Robinson "behind the scenes" motivated ethics allegations against incumbent Todd Turner have amounted to a big fat NOTHING - just like Robinson himself! Todd Turner has been an exemplary District Councilman. He communicates with his constituents regularly through e-mail and through his periodic town meetings. He has done the best of his ability to represent the interests of the citizens of District 3. Todd Turner has done everything he said he would do in 2005, if elected. What more can you ask of a City Councilman? Henri Gardner and Ellen Windlund are encouraged to stay active in the community. The Bowie City Activist website again wholeheartedly endorses Todd Turner in 2007.

DISTRICT 4 - This District race is very interesting! We have an ideological and generational contest between Dr. Isaac Trouth, 60, and Troy Stewart, 26. Dr. Trouth is a Robinson campaign contributor, but also appears aligned with Michael Lyles. I guess Dr. Trouth is hedging his bets. Rather confusing, to say the least. Troy Stewart, on the other hand, is becoming a political phenomenon in Bowie. Mentored by two of the very best in Bowie, the late Bill Aleshire and Gail Booker Jones, Stewart is embarking on what is technically his third bid for the District 4 Seat. He was a write-in candidate in the crowded 2004 Special District 4 election that produced Michael Lyles. He received 6 write-in votes which I can tell you is no small feat. Then, he challenged Lyles in 2005, and now makes his second formal bid for the open District 4 seat.

Troy Stewart is an accomplished young man, an author, and small business owner. He holds a Masters degree from Bowie State University. The City Charter says the qualification for elected office is 18 years of age. The criticism of youth is NOT a valid criteria for disqualify someone for city office unless you want to disqualify the Bowie City Charter itself. I do not believe in these artificial qualifications that some create for elective office in the City of Bowie. Troy Stewart is Bowie hometown homegrown, and all he wants to do is serve Bowie!

At the Long Ridge Caucus held last month, Dr. Trouth rambled and was not concise in his answers.

Stewart is his own person not part of a political machine, and he will do what's in the best interests of District 4 residents. If Bowie has the depressing thought of another two years of Mayor Gee Fred Flintstone, we can at least count on Troy Stewart to give Gee Fred some milk and cookies, and put him to bed after every Council meeting.

The Bowie City Activist website endorses Troy Stewart in District 4.

So, our Bowie City Activist dream team slate is as follows:

Mayor Michael Lyles
At Large Councilman Leon Buck
At Large Councilwoman Geraldine Valentino-Smith
District 1 - Take your pick: Pauletta Handy or James Marcos
District 2 - Diane Polangin
District 3 - Todd Turner
District 4 - Troy Stewart

The Bowie City Activist website recommends Todd Turner for Mayor Pro Tem.

This dream team City Council is representative of Bowie in race, gender and age!

Isn't a City Council suppose to be diverse representing the underlying general population?

Polangin1.jpg

To the best of our knowledge, long time Bowie city resident Diane Polangin sets a new city election record by embarking on her unprecedented third campaign bid for a Seat on the Bowie City Council.

The "Old Boys Network" of Bowie successfully blocked her District 2 bid in 2005. Incumbent Jack Jenkins had a special relationship with Blade News editor John Rouse bartering movie review columns written by his wife, Connie Jenkins, in exchange for Blade News political endorsements. Cronyism and ethics lapses at the Blade News at its very best. Ironically, Polangin has long been an advocate for Equal Pay For Woman, so the "Old Boys Network" blocking Polangin's 2005 election certainly denied Equal Pay on the Bowie City Council for this competent woman.

Over the years, I would read Diane's many letters to our local media outlets raising public awareness about the issue of Equal Pay For Woman. I always knew Diane was right about this issue. For you see, after the 2005 City election, I shared with Diane a copy of my Master's thesis "Income Differences Between Men and Women" that I wrote while earning my MBA degree at Drake University in the late 1970s.

And, for the benefit of any sexist pigs out there in Bowie Cyberspace (and, I won't mention any names because they know who they are), Equal Pay For Woman is a FAMILY issue, NOT a Women's issue. I don't want my daughter or other female family members earning less in life because of the sex they were born. I think most people would agree, and Diane Polangin has been the one person in Bowie raising this family issue.

Incumbent Councilman Kevin Conroy's decision to switch races, vacating his At-Large seat and running for the District 2 seat makes no sense to me. He received the highest vote total in the At-Large Council race in the last election. It should be noted, however, that At-Large Councilman Dennis Brady outpolled Conroy in District 2 albeit through the Brady/Jenkins Rouse "the louse" editorial slate.

I smell the "Old Boy's Network" of Rouse and Robinson at work influencing Conroy to switch Council races throwing the uninspiring Dennis Brady a lifeline and creating a new incumbent block. I have been told my sense of smell is very good!

Everything Robinson touches he corrupts and pollutes. In District 2, we now have two long time friends and former political allies running against one another. As recent as 2006, Diane was campaign treasurer for Kevin's mother, former State Delegate Mary Conroy. Does loyalty have any rewards, even in politics?

Then, there is James Golato. A nice man, but Golato's 2005 campaign payment written out to Blade News writer Judge Gerard Devlin smacked influence peddling to me. Even Golato said "That doesn't look good". Yep. And, shame on Devlin for touching the money and taking the payment. Another ethics lapse down at the Blade News.

Notwithstanding the influence peddling, it is hard to support and vote for an adult still living at home with his parent(s). Jim, isn't it time to grow-up, leave the nest and get out on your own?

Then, Golato keeps reminding us that he hopes to follow in the tradition of Jack Jenkins. Why, how appropriate! Perhaps Jim Golato is going to be a "Rouse the louse" brown nose like Jack Jenkins. And, what were the traditions of Jack Jenkins? Well, let's see - there was the Kenilworth Rat House and the infamous Fly House in Tullip Grove that had to be leveled.

On the September 29, 2005 Bowie City activist webpage (navigate to the dropdown box on this page), Golato says, "Our current representative, Mr. Jenkins, represents the best interest of developers, voting to approve every request for annexation over the past two years that has come to the city council". In 2007, Golato tells us in his advertisments that he wants to continue the legacy of Jack Jenkins. Which Golato do you believe?

Golato's yellow campaign signs give us a signal for good reason. Proceed with caution!

Katie Costello is also a candidate for District 2. What's with that? Perhaps to take some women vote away from Diane? Where did Costello's candidacy come from?

Diane is a polished, savvy business woman and tax professional. We need someone of her professional background on the Bowie City Council.

I recently sat down with Diane (electronically) to discuss the issues important in 2007, and we published her District 2 interview in the August 25/September 10, 2007 webpage edition of the Bowie City Activist. Click on the webpage, and read Diane's thoughts for making a better Bowie.

Let's right a wrong that occurred in 2005 and say NO to any sexist pigs out there in Bowie land by electing Diane to City Council in 2007.

In 2007, The Bowie City Activist website again endorses Diane Polangin for City Council in City District 2.
